How to Calculate Your Event Catering Order

Calculating the catering order right has always been a challenge for our customers. This is why, in this post, our event catering specialists will share with you some tips on how you can easily do this and not end up throwing food or leaving your guests starving:

Consider your guests and gathering type before you order the food. Here is what you need to have in mind:

  • When does the event start? If your guests have eaten lunch or dinner before an event, they will definitely eat less than if you plan your event at a meal time.

  • What season is the event going to be held in? Cold, refreshing food is great for the warm months, and hot savory food complements for cold weather.

  • How long will your party last? Events like weddings are expected to last longer, so you should definitely plan to order some extra food, just in case.

  • Do you plan to serve a meal or you are fine with just appetizers and drinks? If you intend to serve a main dish, you’d better not order too many hors d’oeuvres for the welcoming drinks. If you are organizing a standing event, you’d better showcase finger foods because it won’t be convenient for your guests to use utensils.

  • Who is coming to the event? If you plan to invite a group of women, for example, you’d better choose light food. You will also probably not need that much food as if the party you intend to invite is men only. You should also make sure that none of your guests has special dietary needs. If there are people on a gluten-free diet, or vegetarians, for example, you need to make sure that there will be some food for them as well.

  • What is the event? An event catering for a formal wedding, for example, will cost less than a dinner during the Superbowl, no matter how hard this is to believe. This is because more food will be needed for the second event.
